Birmingham, MI, July 31, 2013 – Birmingham businesswoman, Ellyn Davidson, Managing Partner at Brogan & Partners was honored with the Everyday Hero Award at the annual “Night of Heroes” event.  The RARE Everyday Hero Program, a Winning Futures’ program, is dedicated to inspiring Michigan’s youth through Everyday Heroes.  The prestigious award celebrates the lives of everyday people in the workplace who through extraordinary commitment, courage, compassion, and integrity are changing lives and inspiring others.

To be an Everyday Hero one has to be a proven leader, selfless and committed to enhancing the lives of others.  Gino Wickman, President of EOS Worldwide recognized these qualities in Ellyn Davidson and nominated her for the award.

While fighting for her own life, Ellyn inspired hundreds of women to fight for theirs. Now a five year breast cancer survivor, Ellyn is acutely aware of how important it is to help support other women. Upon being diagnosed with breast cancer, she immediately made a commitment to do everything in her power to eliminate the disease and became the go to support person for people diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After discovering that she has the BRCA gene mutation, a high predictor of both Breast and Ovarian Cancer; she became involved with FORCE, a national support organization for BRCA carriers. Joining with the Genetics Counseling department at Beaumont Hospital, she became the local Outreach Coordinator for FORCE. This allowed Ellyn to help hundreds of women over the years with their diagnoses, and determining if they have the mutation. She also started a team that has now finished its fifth Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the cure. During that time, Ellyn recruited and energized over 100 walkers, raising collectively over $550,000 for Breast Cancer research.

Ellyn was honored alongside nine other heroes and five RARE “Everyday Hero” Scholarship recipients from Michigan schools.  The unique scholarship program engages youth through the process of discussion, discovery, and writing about the Everyday Heroes in their communities.  Over 350 scholarships were submitted; five recipients each received a $2,500 college scholarship.

The RARE Everyday Hero Scholarship program is currently seeking scholarship submissions.  The deadline is December 1st.  To learn more about the program or how to apply for a scholarship please visit www.winningfutures.org.
